KHETI
BAZAAR
A mobile application to enable farmers to sell crops directly to consumers and educate them about government schemes.
Problem Statement
Farmers across India face significant barriers when trying to sell their produce fairly and profitably. A majority of small and mid-sized farmers rely heavily on middlemen, who often dictate low prices, limiting farmers’ earnings and market access. Additionally, farmers struggle to access real-time agricultural guidance and remain unaware of beneficial government schemes due to fragmented information systems.

There is a need for a unified platform that empowers farmers with direct market access and essential resources.
Process Overview

1. Discover Stage
We used semi-structured interviews to understand the lived experiences of farmers. The questions were designed to explore their daily workflows, pain points, use of technology, and aspirations. Below is the full list of questions and interview insights:
Interview Insights:

-
Farmers rely on middlemen due to complex direct sales and convenience.
-
Farmers lack real-time, accurate market information, leading to exploitation and poor decisions.
-
Government mandi processes are complicated and discourage direct sales.
-
Government agents in some mandis collude to keep prices low, reducing farmers’ earnings.
-
Lack of reliable, affordable transportation affects timely crop sales and fair pricing.
-
Farmers are eager to adopt solutions for better market access, fair pricing, and farm management.

2. Empathise Stage
To design an effective solution for farmers and buyers in rural marketplaces, I began by understanding their pain points, behaviors, and motivations. Through field research and observation, I identified key challenges around fair pricing, access to information, and trust. These insights informed the creation of an empathy map and user persona, forming the foundation for a user-centered approach.

3. Define Stage
The define stage involved asking HMW questions which will help us to reframe complex user challenges as opportunities for innovation. By approaching the design problem from multiple angles, we ensure that our solution not only addresses surface-level pain points but also aligns with the broader goals of empowerment, transparency, and accessibility.

4. Ideate Stage
We used techniques like Crazy 8s and MoSCoW Prioritization to encourage creative yet focused ideation. We also worked on user flows for both the buyer and the farmer.

5. Prototype Stage
We created low-fidelity wireframes before moving onto the figma frames.
